Escapees Texas New Year's Hangout

Acadia Seashore Campground • Sullivan, Maine • August 12-19, 2019

Come spend a summer week on Maine’s scenic coast with your fellow Escapees at the Downeast Maine Hangout! (SOLD OUT; join the waiting list)

Acadia National Park, lumberjacks, blueberries and more...

Our Hangout campground is just 30 minutes from Acadia National Park, the “Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast.” We’ll explore some of Acadia’s seven 1,000+ foot high peaks, 158 miles of hiking trails, and 45 miles of carriage roads with 16 stone bridges. Opportunities for stunning photos are abundant among the park’s picturesque rocky headlands, the highest along the Atlantic coastline of the United States.

Picking Maine blueberries
Late August is the peak of Maine’s famed blueberry harvest. You’ll be able to pick your own blueberries at a nearby farm, and then celebrate the sweet fruit with a day trip to the Machias Wild Blueberry Festival

The Hangout will include a visit to the Fort Knox Historic Site and Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Observatory. The Observatory is the tallest bridge observatory open to the public in the world, where we’ll ride up 420′ feet for breathtaking 360 degree views of the Penobscot Bay area. We’ll also explore Bar Harbor and enjoy Timber Tina’s Great Maine Lumberjack Show, featuring axe throwing, log rolling, pole climbing, and other events demonstrating the skills of Maine’s lumberjacks and jills.

Hangout attendees will also have opportunities to dig for and cook mussels right at the park, enjoy a traditional Maine lobster dinner, and go sea kayaking in Mt. Desert Narrows near the campground. And of course, there will be campfires and potluck meals to share with your old and new Escapees friends!

Hangout location

View from Acadia Seashores campgroundOur home base for the Downeast Maine Hangout will be the Acadia Seashore Campground in Sullivan, Maine, just east of Bar Harbor. The campground is located right on the coast, with many of the sites having dramatic views of the waters of Mt. Desert Narrows and Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park.

We will take over most of the campground for the week of the Hangout. All of the sites have water and electricity (a mix of 30 amp and 50 amp service); a few also have sewer connections. There is a bath house and dump station on the property, and the park offers “honey wagon” service at your site for $10 per pump-out. Each site also has a picnic table and a fire ring. When you register, you can indicate your preference for 30 amp or 50 amp electrical service, but please note that because of the limited number of 50 amp sites, we cannot guarantee 50 amp service for everyone who requests it.
Because this is a smaller campground, we have only 25 sites available for this Hangout—so don’t wait to register

Registration includes:

  • 7 nights in RV site with 30 or 50 amp electric + water (a few sites also have sewer connections)
  • Welcome campfire
  • Admission to Lumberjack Show
  • Fort Knox Historic Site
  • Penobscot Narrows Observatory
  • All-you-can-dig mussels
