Where Can I Park My RV to Live Long Term?

You can find long term RV parking in places like RV parks and campgrounds, your own property (in some locations, ordinances apply), and even in mobile home parks. The right solution for you will depend on your location, preferred amenities, and budget.

So, how do you find long term RV parking spots near you?

First, we’ll cover the different types of long term RV parking. Then, we’ll cover the most important factors to consider when picking an RV park or campground. After that, we’ll talk about how you can find long term RV camping through RV membership clubs. Finally, we’ll cover the most popular reasons for stationary RVing and answer some FAQs (like the best states for full-time RV living).

How to Find the Best Long Term RV Parks Near You or Your Desired Location

One of the first and best ways to find long term RV parks near you is to simply Google “long term RV parks near me”. You’ll get a lot of results this way, but keep in mind that not all results will actually be long term or permanent RV parks.

Google will aggregate all the RV parks near you, then you’ll have to sift through the information to find the campgrounds that allow long term or permanent RV parking.

You can try typing your search in quotation marks, like this: “long term RV park” near me – see the image below.

This may provide better results, but you may still have to do some digging.

It’s important to note that finding the right long term RV park near you isn’t always as simple as picking one out from a Google search – it can be a more complicated process than that.

However, when you’re armed with the right information, picking the right spot will be easy!

In this article, we put together all of the most important things to consider before selecting a long term RV park. Plus, we’ve added some helpful tips to find long term parking through camping memberships, like Escapees, so you can camp long term with like-minded people if that’s important to you.

Types of Long Term RV Parking

Where Can I Park My RV Long-Term? Find the Best Long-Term RV Parks Near You 2

Before we even get started, let’s cover the different types of long term RV parking.

Different types of RV parks and campgrounds offer different types of RV parking. Some RV parks that offer “long term” RV parking may only be referencing seasonal RV spots, so it’s important to read their website or inquire by calling.

Monthly RV Parking

Monthly RV parking is a common type of long term RV parking where the RV park or campground will rent a spot to you month-to-month.

Sometimes, these spots will come with a monthly lease. Other times, you simply pay to renew your spot each month.

Annual RV Parking

Long-term RV campgrounds that offer annual RV parking offer RV spots that they rent out annually, similarly to how an apartment lease would work.

These types of RV campsites typically come with a lease where you pay monthly, just like renting an apartment. Some annual RV parking will require you to be responsible for paying your own utilities, so be sure to inquire if you choose this kind of parking option.

Seasonal RV Parking

Seasonal RV parking is a popular way of traveling for many people to escape the cold northern states during the winter months, or escape the hot southern states during the summer months.

Seasonal RV parking spots can be found in abundance, especially in popular vacation destinations. However, these spots go fast – especially in popular areas! So if this is what you’re after, be sure to plan months in advance.

Permanent RV Parking

Permanent RV parking spots can be found in places like RV resorts, mobile home parks, and even some camping membership club campgrounds like the Escapees SKP Co-Ops, which are Co-Operative campgrounds run by and exclusively open to Escapees RV Club members.

Deeded RV Lots

A deeded RV lot is another type of permanent RV parking where you actually own the lot that your RV is parked on.

You can find deeded RV lots for sale online or through RV resorts or membership clubs like Escapees RV Parks.

Now that you know the different types of long term RV parking spots, let’s take a look at some important factors to consider before you pick one out.

Considerations for Long Term or Permanent RV Parking

Where Can I Park My RV Long-Term? Find the Best Long-Term RV Parks Near You 3

Finding the right long term RV parking spot isn’t as simple as picking the first available one – there are many factors to take into consideration.

Let’s take a look at some of the most important factors to consider before making your final decision.

Location, location, location.

Finding the right long term RV camping near you is all about the location!

Do you need something that’s close to work or school? Or are you looking to find a long term spot in a hot destination so you can experience it like a local? Or, alternatively, maybe you’re a snowbird looking for a warm long term spot to wait out the cold winter months.

Another location consideration is proximity to things you know you love to do. Whether that’s outdoor activities (like being near a beach!) or close to your favorite shopping and restaurants, narrow down your desired locations before you begin your search.

Are you the kind of person who just needs a slab with full hookups to live happily? Or are you the type who prefers a long term RV campground that offers it all, like:

  • A campfire ring
  • Wifi
  • A spacious campsite
  • An on-site pool and/or hot tub
  • A laundry room
  • Games and activities
  • A playground for the kids

If amenities are important to you, then not just any RV park will do.

Of course, cost is a major factor when it comes to selecting the right long term campsite for you.

Sometimes, there are additional costs for long term or permanent RV campsites. Some RV parks and campgrounds require long term campers to pay their own utilities like electric and water.

And, in places like luxury RV parks or resorts, you may also have to pay fees for things like Property Owners Association, landscaping, etc.

Learn how to find budget-friendly campgrounds here.

Weather is an important factor for many RVers. Not all RVs are made to withstand extreme summer heat or extreme winter cold.

And even if your RV can handle it, maybe you can’t!

If you’re planning on finding long term RV parking in a new locale, find out what the year-round weather is like before you commit.

Rules and Regulations

Every campground has their own set of rules and regulations, and rules will vary from park to park.

Some parks are more strict than others, so be sure to read the entire list of rules before signing up for a spot at a long term campground.

5 Main Reasons People Choose Long Term RV Parking

Where Can I Park My RV Long-Term? Find the Best Long-Term RV Parks Near You 6

There are many benefits of living stationary in an RV in one spot, whether permanently or just for several months.

Many people opt for the stationary RV life as a way to cut back on expenses so they can save money and/or have more money to spend on experiences, like travel.

Others prefer a life of minimalism, and living in a small space prevents you from stocking up on unnecessary stuff!

Here are some of the main benefits of long term RV parking.

1. Stay Close to School or Work

If you want to stay close to school or work while downsizing to save money, stationary RV living is a great choice.

It’s usually not hard to find long term RV parking in most cities and towns across the country. But, if you’re staying close to home, you may end up having to sacrifice on certain amenities.

2. Seasonal Work or Traveling Jobs

Seasonal workers and traveling workers like those in the oil fields, gate guards, or traveling nurses often choose RVs to live in while they travel for work.

Stationary RV living is a much more relaxed lifestyle than living in hotels all the time, and it enables you to bring your whole family if you wanted to.

It’s so great to have all the comforts of home wherever you go.

3. Travel Slowly to Experience Places Like a Local

Many full-time RVers love to travel slowly and experience every destination as a local.

Instead of trying to pack all the sightseeing in to just a couple of days, you can stay for a couple of months and truly absorb what it’s like to live in a certain location.

Not only does this allow you to truly experience different places, it also helps you save money on travel. When you travel slower, you aren’t spending as much on gas or necessary vehicle maintenance.

4. Snowbirding to Warmer Winter Locales

Imagine spending your winter RVing here! (An RV on the Colorado River in Laughlin, Nevada)

An “RV Snowbird” is a person who likes to travel south for the winter to escape the cold winter months in the north.

But snowbirds also “fly north” during the summer to escape the brutal summer heat in the southern states!

Being a “fair weather” RVer has many benefits. Plus, spending the winter in the sunny and mild states of Florida or Arizona makes for very happy campers.

5. Stationary RV Vacation Destination

Last but not least, parking your RV at an RV campground or resort so you can stay in it on weekends and vacations throughout the year is just another popular method of stationary RV camping.

This is what park model RVs are designed for!

You can purchase or lease a long term RV campsite at many different RV campgrounds and resorts around the US and park your RV for family vacations and weekend getaways.

It’s like having your own family cabin or vacation home, but without much of the upkeep, costs, and hassle.

FAQ About Long Term RV Camping

Long-term RV camping is a great choice for many people, but it also lends itself to a lot of questions. Let’s take a look at some of the most frequently asked questions about living in your RV long term.

What State is the Best for Full-Time RV Living?

Where Can I Park My RV Long-Term? Find the Best Long-Term RV Parks Near You 8

The best state for full-time RV living will vary from person to person, because everyone has different needs and preferences. However, there are 3 main states that full-time RVers choose as their legal domicile: South Dakota, Texas, and Florida.

Your domicile is the state that you choose as your legal, permanent residence. Domicile requires an “intent” to return to that area after travels are over.

As an RVer, you may not live in that state at the current moment. So how do you show “intent”? By setting up connections to the local area. You can show intent by doing things like getting a physical address, registering your vehicles in that state or county, voting, having a local drivers license, and more.

Domicile is a tricky subject and one of the most unique challenges that full-time RVers face. We at Escapees RV Club know this issue well, and we have a variety of domicile resources for RVers.

You can download our domicile guides for TX, SD, and FL for free, or fill out a form at the bottom of the page for a free consult with East Texas Legal, our commercial partners who specialize in RV domicile and estate planning.

Can You Use an RV Park as a Permanent Address?

In most cases, you can’t use an RV park that you’re staying at as a permanent address. This may vary if you have a lease or deeded lot, but it is something that doesn’t have a simple cut-and-dry answer.

If you just want to use the RV park as an address to receive mail, you need to check with the park or campground office beforehand. Many RV parks will allow this, but some have rules against it and may even charge you money for having mail sent there.

If you want to learn more about how to get your mail as an RVer, check out our guide: How RVers Get Their Mail.

Escapees RV Club provides a mail service and domicile service called Escapees:HOME that you can use as your personal mailbox and legal physical address, no matter where you travel in the country.

For most full-time RVers, establishing a legal domicile is an important and necessary step to handle all of your legal documents and estate planning. You can reference our domicile guides here to learn more.

How Do You Get Your Mail as a Full-Time RVer?

Where Can I Park My RV Long-Term? Find the Best Long-Term RV Parks Near You 9

Whether you’re on the road or at a long term RV park, you can get your mail in a variety of ways. You can use an RV mail forwarding service, USPS general delivery, or in some cases you can have it sent to your campground.

Figuring out how to get your mail on the road or even at a long term RV park is one of the top questions RVers ask.

Luckily, there’s an easy solution!

Escapees RV Club offers a mail forwarding service for RVers that also provides a permanent, physical address – learn more about our mail service here.

Can You Live Year-Round in an RV Park or Campground?

Yes, you can live year-round in an RV park or campground. You just have to find a campground that offers long term RV parking, and after reading this article you should have a pretty good idea of how to do that.

Whether you want to find a long term RV park for a seasonal stay, permanent stay, or you want to buy your very own RV lot, you can. The process for finding each type of campsite is a bit different, but by now you have the information and resources to find the perfect one.

Be sure to consider things like:

  • Location
  • Amenities
  • Associated extra costs (utilities, POA, etc)
  • How you will get your mail

  1. Looking for long term rv site somewhere around asheville preferably not in the city but that’s fine. Budget is about 900

    1. Hello Ian. We don’t recommend specific RV parks (except for Escapees RV Parks) but there is a box with links in it within the article for places to look in your specific location. You may also want to check Craigslist or local Facebook groups that are offering long term RV sites by owners of land in the area. Good luck!

  2. I’m disabled and awarded the minimum of 934.00 a month. My dreams is the out doors. Can a single person afford campsites year round on such an income ? If so how and where ?

    1. Hi Casey! Yes, it’s possible to afford campsites year ’round on what you earn a month. Monthly rates vary from place to place so it is worthwhile to search online for RV parks near where you want to live. Then, if their websites don’t give you enough information, calling them will help get you what information you need. We wish you the best of luck in your search and hope you find a nice place to park!

      1. I’m trying to find a parasite for my my 28ft camper year round in Northfield or Tilton, any ideas?, I’m in a scramble to find one,I work 2 jobs as well, so I’m always working, I need some help

        1. Hello Dwayne, you sound very busy. However, we don’t have any suggestions for specific RV parks. You can check online to see what is available in your area (Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Google searches) for people who may rent an individual RV spot on their property, for RV park websites, or you can ask people at work if they know of anyone who might have a recommendation for you. We wish you the best of luck!

    2. I’m 65 years old looking for a permanent rv site I’m disabled on a fixed income I live Greenvill nc now would love to stay in area

  3. I’m looking for a lot to put a camper to live in. It’s just me n my dog. Don’t need a big lot. I’m a private person looking for a quiet place to live. I lost my husband of 25 years this Dec 24 and having to move. I like my privacy

    1. Hello Joann, we’re very sorry for your loss. We can only imagine how difficult everything is for you right now and having to find a new place to live probably just compounds everything. Many RVers have found private spots to rent online offered by people who advertise space on their property. They are often listed on places like Craigslist or on websites such as https://rvproperty.com/rv-lots/rv-lots-for-rent/. (Please note we are not affiliated with the suggested websites given here.) We hope you have either found a space or will find one soon. Good luck and take care.

  4. I’m just now starting to plan down sizing to a tiny home or rv to live in. Ohio has such strict rules for each. I need to be somewhat near Pickaway county which is just south of Columbus. Any help on location for year round rv parking would be appreciated. I’ve tried some websites but I end up in some weird website or advertisement 🙄

    1. Hi Kimberly! Did you try the links in the blog post? They are all working and give you ideas in the specific area you are looking for. You can then call the specific RV parks that come up to ask them their rates or call the owners of private lots. As another option, you can check Craigslist for owners of homes who have RV lots available on their property. Good luck in your search!

  5. rvproperty.com.might as well be defunct. I contacted a number of owners and the property had been sold sometime ago. 1 owner stated that she has been trying to get her listing removed for OVER 2 years.
