Cascade Mountains Hangout (SOLD OUT/Waiting List)

August 3, 2021 - August 10, 2021

Cascade Mountains Hangout (SOLD OUT/Waiting List) 1

Chelan County Expo Center • Cashmere, Washington • August 3-10, 2021

This Hangout is currently sold out, but join the waiting list and we’ll let you know if a spot opens up!

Come and play in the heart of Washington State

Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range, in a land carved by glaciers, Chelan County in north-central Washington State offers an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities, along with several wonderful and unique towns. During the seven-day Escapees Cascade Mountains Hangout, you’ll get to play in this region known as “Washington’s Playground”.

You’ll begin the Hangout by exploring the charming Bavarian village of Leavenworth with a photo scavenger hunt. Your search will take you to the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum, with its unique display of more than 7,000 nutcrackers. You’ll chow down on the famous rotisserie chicken, ribs, and brisket (or plant-based options, if you prefer) at the Stein Beer Hall & Bottle Shop, and drink up from a sampling from their 55 taps of beer and cider, including the best craft beers from the Northwest and imports from Germany and beyond.

The North Cascades are a hiker’s paradise, especially in August when other areas of the country are sizzling under the summer sun. The Cascade Mountains Hangout will include hikes and picnics on the Icicle Creek Trail, a four-mile trail that winds through the forest with the sound of the creek in the valley below, and around Lake Wenatchee, a five-mile-long, clear blue lake surrounded by mountains.

sound of music

One evening during the Hangout, the group will attend a performance of The Sound of Music at the Leavenworth Summer Theater, the largest live theater between Seattle and Spokane. And what better place to experience the beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family than the unforgettable outdoor Ski Hill Amphitheater in an authentic Bavarian village?

Another day, you’ll explore the town of Cashmere, the heart of Washington’s pear and apple growing region. You’ll step back into the town’s history as you tour the Cashmere Museum and Pioneer Village, and be moved by the impressive 9-11 Spirit of America Memorial at Riverside Park. You’ll also get to sample the delicious products at a few of the area’s distilleries, wineries and cider mills.

The Cascade Mountains Hangout will conclude with dinner and an evening of Bavarian music at Andreas Keller Restaurant. Andreas Keller serves traditional, homemade Bavarian food and imported draft beers, offers more live music than any place in Leavenworth, and encourages heavy helpings of Gemütlichkeit (warmth, geniality, friendliness, good cheer).

Optional activities

Lady of the Lake boat tour on Lake Chelan with Stehekin visit ($92/person)

The Lady of the Lake boats travel the length of Lake Chelan—a narrow, 55-mile-long fjord surrounded by peaks of the North Cascades more than 9,000 feet high—taking you deep into the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. On this “Cascade Flyer” combo tour, you’ll depart the village of Chelan at 8:00 am on the Lady Cat, the fastest boat on the lake. 90 minutes later, you’ll land in the remote village of Stehekin, located at the headwaters of Lake Chelan.

The only way in and out of Stehekin is by boat, float plane or on foot–there are no roads in or out of the village. Roughly 90 residents live there year-round. You’ll have a three-hour layover in Stehekin for lunch and a short hike among the mountains before boarding a different boat, the Lady Express, for a more leisurely 2 1/2-hour scenic trip back down the lake.

Whitewater rafting on the Wenatchee River ($86/person)

With big waves and nearly 300 days of sunshine a year, the Wenatchee River has become the most popular river rafting destination in Washington State. You’ll be picked up at our campground and put in at Leavenworth. From there, the river quickly takes you into Class III+ whitewater, with huge but non-technical rapids like “Boulder Bend”, “Rock And Roll” and “Snowblind”.  Further down the river, the water calms, leaving you to enjoy the scenery and sunshine on your way to the take out back in Cashmere.

Your ticket for this 3-4 hour adventure includes all the necessary equipment (neoprene booties for your feet, helmet, personal floatation device and splash jacket) along with the services of a certified professional guide.

Because these special activities are in extremely high demand and we have only a limited number of seats reserved for each, you must purchase tickets for these optional activities in advance at the time you register for the Hangout
